Sleigh The HoliDays

It’s that time of year where contact with relatives increases (even if it’s socially distanced contact over zoom), and so does the stress that comes with those interactions.

One of the hardest parts about relationships is accepting that you have absolutely no control over anyone else. 

That means that no matter how much you mingle and meddle, the only outcome that is guaranteed is feeling frustrated over how powerless you are. 

That’s why this holiday season I want you to remember to “Sleigh Your Day.” 

Just like Santa, imagine being in your own sleigh.

You’ve got Dasher and Dancer and the whole female squad of reindeers taking you wherever you want to go.

If you want to go left, they will go left. If you want to fly by your friends house, off you’ll go!

And just like you’re in your own sleigh, everyone else is in their own too.

So what happens when you try to take over another persons sleigh (i.e control another person)? You lose control of your own sleigh and drive yourself crazy in the process. 

Let’s use my boyfriend wrapping gifts as an example. If I think that the way he’s wrapping gifts isn’t as good as how I do them, I may be tempted to take over his wrapping. What I’m really doing is trying to grab the reins of his sleigh (control how he wraps). 

You can’t fly two sleighs at once, and every time you choose to control someone else’s sleigh yours slowly starts to veer off course. After a while despite your best efforts to keep both on track, you end up crashing your own sleigh, creating chaos.

So slay your holidays by staying in your own sleigh- just like Santa! In doing so, you’re choosing the peaceful route.
